Initiative

Stroud Steiner Free School Initiative aims to provide diversity and choice in education for around 600 children from 4-16 yrs in the Stroud area. A practical, social and academic education.

We seek to establish a school in the Stroud area where all will be welcome, regardless of ethnicity, religion, background, income, ability, gender or any other consideration.

A broad curriculum will be offered where creative, intellectual, physical and practical skills will be taught across the whole school, appropriate to the child’s age.

In Steiner education, rhythm and routine is focused on in the Early Years and we would like our children to experience a socially and emotionally nurturing environment which creates space for the development of each child’s unique ability.

As the child progresses through the school, maths, science, language, literature, history and geography are taught, supported by foreign languages, art, movement and performing arts. The child’s knowledge is deepened and broadened in the latter years as they work towards gaining national qualifications in a caring environment which creates a strong sense of self and social awareness.

We need your help.  If we are to get the go ahead from the government to set up a new free school, we need to show that there is a demand for this sort of education in this area. So we NEED you to fill in a brief online form saying that you would like your children to go to this school following approval. We are aiming to open in September 2015.

We also need to be able to contact you if you are a supporter, so please join our mailing list by contacting us at stroudsteinerfreeschool@gmail.com

Our next public meeting is on Tuesday 26th February 8pm @ the Christian Community, Stroud. Please get in touch for further meetings and events.

I would love my child to receive this form of education but am entirely unable to afford it. I believe that alternative forms of education should be freely available for all and that it would be widely sought after in this area which has a great steiner influence.

We have been saving since our child’s birth to pay for a waldorf education and have only managed to save enough for kindi. For our child to continue his education in this vein would be a dream come true for us.

I was lucky enough to have a Steiner education albeit for the last three years of my school life way back in the 80′s and it changed my life; it changed my view on life and it really was the ‘making of me’, I really love the person I became from the person I was before Steiner but my mother paid for those three years and she struggled to pay for two years after I left school. Sadly, I could never afford for my two eldest children to attend a Steiner school and have always felt so sad that I couldn’t give them the opportunity that I was given but now this dream could become a reality for my two youngest children to attend and enjoy a Steiner education. This is so exciting and I would love for my children to be able to have an education that I know they would truly benefit from.

I would love to be able to choose this form of education for my children and really hope you get enough support to enable the funding. I will be watching with interest.

Steiner education should be freely available for all as an acceptable alternative to mainstream education. My children have only experienced a pre-school Steiner environment but it has been a fantastic experience for them. Good luck with the initiative.

What an exciting thing should this happen. I have 6 children and my eldest is 19 and his whole school experience was not a great one, I used to wish I could afford a Steiner education and although my other children are happy at school, I would love for them to be educated the Steiner way.
There should be more free educational choices available for all…I am going to watch this initiative very closely. Good luck!

We couldn’t believe the news when we heard that there could be a State funded Steiner school opening in Stroud. We had heard that there is one in Hereford but this is too far for us to travel. At present we attend Wynstones Toddler group and thoroughly enjoy the experience, learning with their hands first feels good to us and their approach and ethos sits well with us (more so than other schools). With our first child approaching the age of 3 we are currently considering where to send him for pre school and contemplating his school life in the years to follow. We sincerely hope that this School gets the go ahead as we simply could not afford to send our 2 children to a private school. We are in full support and wishing this Initiative… Good Luck.!!

Hi Kelly and Ollie, have added your name to the mailing list – there should be a newsletter regarding our progress in the next couple of weeks, but should you not want to hear from us, just reply and we’ll take your name off. If you are interested in getting involved, there will be a meeting in a couple weeks – date TBA. Thanks, Ames ~*~

My child is ten now, but has a kindergarten background..so it would be like a duck to water..lovely life giving water!! Obviously the academic side of things matter more when children get older to cope in the real world and follow their chosen career..so really hope those needs would be met if he joined in 2015..he will be 12 years old..

Will get involved when I can see a way to..but for now remain very interested.

    Jenni.
